After lunch, my human gets back to work. She’s busy doing a “forensic audit,” whatever that is, but it seems important. We basically spend the whole workday together. I take calls from my desk and find ways to almost never leave my office. I make sure that when she steps out to use the restroom I quietly follow behind at a distance, making sure that she doesn’t meet up with anyone else who will say something to increase the frown on her features.

I communicate with Skoll and Fenrir about the fact that my human is on the run. They initiate a more thorough background check. Avery needs support and safety and we will provide that for her. Whoever is causing my human distress will regret their actions.

Soon after, I’m scanning a report that informs me she’s working for the Intergalactic Business Bureau. Hmm. My female is an undercover operative bringing down corporate espionage across the four sectors. Lately, she’s been working to clean up corruption on her home planet. I glance at her, watching her profile as she works. She’s staring at two different large glass screens, scanning graphs and data. I love her combination of lush body, sharp mind, and steely determination.

“Hannibal?” she questions, still looking at the screen as she talks.

“Yes?” I smile, loving the sound of my name on her lips.

“You used a coupon to hire me?” she questions.

“Yes,” I respond proudly. “It was a very good deal.”

She glances over at me, “You only chose me because I was on sale?” she pouts.

“It would’ve been easier to hire a Hyrrokin assistant,” I admit, “but the Intergalactic Employment Agency was offering me a steep discount and they promised a highly trained employee. Which is exactly what I received—a highly trained employee.”

Her lips curve. “I have to admit, I’m impressed at your resourcefulness. I’ll write off the fee you paid to the employment agency too.”

I grin and we both get back to work.

An hour later my assistant again breaks the silence. “I’m looking at your calendar for tomorrow,” she comments.

“Hmm..?” I’m busy checking visuals of the quarters she lived in on her home world. I hacked New Earth’s satellites and I can see that mercenaries have ransacked her apartment. Does my female know that this has happened? I am highly irritated on her behalf.

“Hannibal, do you realize you are double-booked tomorrow? You have two appointments scheduled at the same time.”

“What?” I look up. “That’s impossible. I’ve been doing the scheduling myself. I wouldn’t make that kind of error.”

She crooks an eyebrow at me.

“Oh hell.” I rub a claw over my head. “This is exactly why I hired you. This type of thing happens much too often.”

“You have an appointment for Dagr, but also a meeting with a new client at the same time.”

A growl rumbles from my chest.

“Do you remember who the client is? I can’t find any specifics here.”

I sigh with resignation. “No, but I will find out. And I’ll cancel it so I can go to the appointment with Dagr.
